Our client a leading Queens based hospital is seeking a Director of its Professional Practice. The Director will engage in coordinating and managing the Nursing Education, Research and Quality unit/department-based educators who plan, develop, implement and evaluate nursing orientation, continuing education and professional development for RNs, LPNs and unlicensed staff. This position will oversee nursing quality improvement, peer review, research and evidence-based practice and ensure nursing education and practice are continually updated in a timely manner through these initiatives. Collaborate with the faculty of the schools of nursing and coordinate undergraduate student nurse clinical rotations. Investigate, develop and apply for grants to support nursing education and research. Develop, implement and monitor goals and objectives, policies and procedures and operational and capital budgets for the Medical Center.

Plan and set goals and objectives for the Medical Center to include determining services needed, the most effective way to provide these services and the resources necessary to support them. Manage and direct the Center’s operations which will include establishing goals, monitoring statistics, developing work plans, managing facilities and supervising on a day-to-day basis.

Maintain knowledge of nursing trends, educational techniques and program evaluation methods. Develop and implement innovative, effective and efficient programs for at least, but not limited to, the following key areas:

  • Orientation and continuing education of RNs, LPNs and unlicensed nursing staff working in patient care units/departments
  • Nursing quality improvement program/Nursing peer review program
  • Nursing research and publications
  • Patient acuity/classification system, distance learning
  • Responsible for quality and performance improvement activities in department and multidisciplinary
  • Nursing leadership development/Nursing policies and procedures
  • American Nurses’ Credentialing Center continuing education (CE) provider
  • Coordination of undergraduate and graduate student nurse clinical rotations
  • Patient education

Skills/Requirements

5-8 years of experience in nursing education or equivalent. Previous management experience is required.

Education:

Valid NYS RN License, Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree or PhD in Nursing or equivalent preferred.
